Caramel Macchiato

Caramel Macchiato

Treat Yo’ Self Two Thousand Fiftee-eeen! (You have to imagine Tom Haverford and Donna singing that, okay?)

I was WAAAY late to the Parks and Rec party…like, didn’t-even-start-watching-it-until-it-the-series-was-over late. And while I was a little dissappointed in myself  (I’m usually pretty up-to-date, very familiar with, and generally all over any funny TV), after I’d watched the first episode, all I could be was excited…because, yeah, shame on me for taking so long, but also, lucky me—I had so much solid comedy ahead! Laughs for months to come! (It actually ended up being more like weeks, but that’s beside the point.)

While Treat Yo’ Self Day has been around since 2011, Treat Yo’ Self 2015 (that’s today!) is my first opportunity to celebrate with the rest of the Parks and Rec-watching world. And if you have no idea what I’m talking about, two things: #1 I am so jealous because you still get to watch the whole series for the first time, and #2 Watch this video so you know what the deal is.

Fragrances and “fine leather goods” aren’t exactly my thing—and Treat Yo’ Self Day is all about treating yo’ self—so here’s how I choose to start my day: Fancy espresso drink. (Treat yo’ self!) With extra foam. (Treat yo’ self!) And caramel drizzle. (Treat yo’ self!)

Enjoy this caramel macchiato. (Treat yo’ self!)

Caramel Macchiato
Ready in time:
5 min
Serves one

  1. Pour a little sweetener in the bottom of your mug. I used maple syrup, but you can use whatever you like: vanilla syrup, agave, etc.

  2. Steam milk (I used hemp milk—find out why I love it so) and pour it into the mug. You’ll want about 1/3 of that to be foam, and leave about 1/4 inch of room at the brim. The milk will sink just a little, so you should still have room for both the espresso shots and caramel drizzle without things spilling over.

  3. Brew espresso, and pour shots over the foam.

  4. Drizzle caramel over the foam and espresso. If you want it to look just like the Starbucks drink, drizzle in a crosshatch pattern, then do two circles around the outside. Or maybe you want three circles? (Treat yo’ self!)

And finally…
Caramel Macchiato

If you’ve done it right, foam will be bubbling above the rim, and caramel will be dripping down the side of your mug. 🙂Caramel Macchiato

    • Ha! Yes–well, sort of. It’s a home espresso machine I bought from Starbucks back when I was a barista. I think I paid $100 for it, and after 15 years, it’s still going strong!
