Margarita-ish Mocktail

IMG_2677-4.jpgIf you haven’t yet heard my sob story about alcohol, here it is… in my late twenties, over the course of about three years, I developed an unfortunate reaction to it: insomnia. Like, big time. I have a sip of wine at lunch, and I don’t fall asleep until 5am the next day. I know it sounds like I’m exaggerating, but sadly, this is 100% true.

SO, I have been all about the mocktails for the past several years, and think I may have just hit upon a worthy substitution for my beloved margarita—I miss them the most. There’s just nothing like a plate of tacos with stiff marg, but I think I found a runner up.

This margarita-inspired sipper is just lime juice, honey, tonic water, and slices of jalapeno to give it that bite/edge that tequila usually adds. I must say, it’s quite good: it’s super light and refreshing, and not too sweet. Just my style.

Enjoy one on the deck tonight!

Margarita-ish Mocktail
Ready in:
5 min
Yields:
1 drink

IMG_2600Ingredients:
Juice from one lime (cut one slice before you juice your lime so you have it for a garnish)
2 teaspoons raw honey
6 ounces tonic water
2-3 slices of jalapeno
A dash of sea salt flakes
3/4 to 1 cup ice

Directions:

  1. Pour honey into a 14-ounce glass and add 1 to 2 tablespoons of hot water. Stir to dissolve honey.
  2. Pour in lime juice.
  3. Fill glass with ice and pour in about 6 ounces of tonic water.
  4. Add 2 or 3 slices of jalapeno, then stir.
  5. Sprinkle with some salt flakes, then garnish with lime slice.

Bottoms up!

While reading the post my mind was going through the fridge.. Do I have that, yes, and that? Yes.. Only thing I don’t have is jalapeño but what the heck, I’ll use cayenne if I forget to buy 😆 it sounds right up my alley!

    • Totally, yes! Also, it’s really good with a little muddled cilantro I there if you’re a cilantro person. Mmm, enjoy! Might need to make one of these myself tonight! 😉👍
